Scheduling Rules
Understanding adherence metrics and compliance targets
Rule Adherence
Rule Adherence measures how well a schedule follows defined constraints. Think of it as a **compliance score** that reflects adherence to scheduling policies.
Penalty Points
Not all rule violations carry equal weight. **Penalty points** assign severity scores to different violations, ensuring critical issues receive appropriate priority over minor infractions.
Critical violations receive higher penalty weights and demand immediate attention.
Minor violations receive lower penalty weights and can be addressed systematically.
This weighting system prevents minor issues from overwhelming critical violations in the overall score.
Target Attainment
Some studios cannot practically achieve 100% rule adherence due to operational constraints. Target Attainment provides a fair, realistic measurement by comparing each studio's actual adherence to the best possible adherence that could be achieved for that studio, given its unique situation.
When 100% adherence is not achievable
The app automatically optimizes each studio's schedule to the rules and calculates the highest possible rule adherence for that studio. This value becomes the Rule Adherence Target—it is not set manually, but determined by the algorithm based on studio-specific constraints which may make perfect compliance impossible.
Actual adherence is then measured for each studio and compared to this pre-calculated target. Target Attainment is computed as: Actual Adherence ÷ Rule Adherence Target = Target Attainment.
This approach ensures studios are measured against the best achievable standard for their unique situation, providing a fair and motivating benchmark rather than an impossible standard.
What if the studio's situation changes after the target is set?
If a studio's operational situation changes significantly after the Rule Adherence Target has been set (the target is usually based on the week whose Monday is the first Monday of the scheduling period, such as a quarter), the target may no longer reflect what is realistically achievable. In such cases, review the situation with your district manager. If a reset is warranted, the strategy team can approve and coordinate recalculating the Rule Adherence Target using a more appropriate week as the new baseline. This ensures the target remains fair and relevant to current conditions.
